    There is no such thing as a bad dog. When we decided to bring Rio on the last guided River Trip, we envisioned a perfect river dog sitting on the cooler of the gear boat ready to rescue any duckie kayak that might tump over as they say in Oklahoma. Little did we know that Rio would be upset by the fact that everyone was in different boats. As we went into the first rapid right after the launch, he decided to swim after Janet the other guide and his “Mom”. I can still envision the dive from the cooler as he leapt into the frothy whitewater not just once but for the next three rapids. 
    The solution was simple. Tie Janet’s kayak to the back of the gear boat and hold Rio thru the rest of the rapids. Altho some whining occurred and one portage, Rio was the life of the lunch table and sandbar swimming contest. Later as the tornado loomed above us and immobilized the trip, Rio tried to help line the boat to our cow wallow known now as Salvation Camp. When finally everyone was warm and fed and snuggled in their sleeping bags, Rio had done his job and went to sleep on his thermarest pad. Here he is celebrating the beautiful morning of day 2. Cheers!
